Tayateh - 7 Day 6 Nights Tour                                     "Tayateh" is the Tasmanian Aboriginal term for the native Freshwater lobster

This seven day tour departs from Launceston and heads to Hobart via the East Coast.  We will show the picturesque side of Tasmania, from the amazing coastline at Freycinet National Park, majestic temperate rainforest in the south, to the world class produce which thrive in the amazing fertile soils. The highlight being an unique award winning, seafood cruise, sampling the freshest seafood caught directly from pristine Tasmanian waters.  Get up close to native Tasmanian animals including the Tasmanian Devils. With two highlight dinners and many exclusive tastings and behind the scenes experiences, this is an amazing overview of the delights of Tasmania.

Day 1.  Launceston, Cataract Gorge

Meet at Launceston airport, then go on a city tour of Tasmania’s second largest city. Arrive at the picturesque Cataract Gorge with time to explore the suspension bridge and the beautiful surrounds. Relax as we enjoy afternoon tea in the lovely manicured gardens. Sample the unique Leatherwood Honey harvested from Tasmanian wilderness.

Day 2.  Launceston to East Coast

Visit a truffle farm and learn how truffles are grown and found.  Travel to the sunny east coast and the stunning Freycinet National Park.  Learn about the operations of an oyster farm with a behind the scenes tour.  Enjoy the glorious white sands of the east coast beaches and walk around the light house at Cape Tourville. Be amazed at the spectacular coastal views.  At sunset, we travel to the amazing fairy penguins and watch them head back to land after a day’s feeding.

Day 3.  East Coast to Oatlands and Derwent Valley

Head to Oatlands to see the largest concentration of sandstone buildings in Tasmania.  Take a tour of a woollen garments factory, to see knitwear made with the finest Tasmanian merino wool shorn from sheep reared on their own farms. Head to a “Paddock to Bottle” whisky distillery, one of only two in the world, where everything from the water to the wood for the barrels, are produced on site.  Take a behind the scenes tour and exclusive tasting.   

Optional alternative experience:  Visit a working sheep farm, watch sheep shearing, working farm dogs, farm tour with BBQ lunch (additional costs apply)

Day 4.  Huon Valley

Head to Huon Valley and tour the apple growing region of Tasmania.  Visit the Tahune Airwalk to experience a breath taking spine tingling aerial view of the Tasmanian eucalypt forest canopy.  Experience the clashing chaos of the joining of the Huon and Picton Rivers, from a height of 45 metres  Sample handmade chocolate made by a local artisan chocolatier. Head to a private apple orchard and have homemade afternoon tea with an “In Orchard” experience. Amber through the fruit trees and pick a few apples for sampling.  Weather permitting, head up to Mount Wellington and enjoy the amazing sights of Hobart and its surrounds, from 1271 metres.

Day 5.  Seafood Seduction Cruise to Bruny Island

The highlight of our adventure: Cruise the beautiful sheltered Derwent River to Bruny Island. Watch as divers harvest fresh oysters, salmon, crayfish, abalone and sea urchins from the cool pristine waters of the Derwent River.  Head to a secluded beach and enjoy the success of the day's catch.  A gourmet seafood feast will be prepared and accompanied, with a delicious selection of Tasmanian cheese, fresh crisp salads and local wines.  A unique world class cruise.

Day 6.  Salamanca Place, MONA, Bonorong Wildlife Park

Spend the morning exploring the world renown Salamanca Market and have lunch (at own cost) from the wonderful and extensive array of freshly cooked delights.  Take a ferry from the quaint Hobart waterfront to the MONA museum. Spend time wandering Australia’s largest private collection of modern and new art.  Then it’s time for the Devil, the Tasmanian Devil. Get up and close to this and other native Tasmanian animals at Bonorong WIldlife Park.

Day 7.  Richmond & Departure

Spend the last morning in Hobart by heading to the historical Georgian township of Richmond. Explore Australia’s oldest bridge and oldest Catholic Church.  Then transfer to the airport for your home bound flight.
